What this site is for

This is patient education about fat at the waist, published by Chongqing West District Hospital, a tertiary general hospital in Jiulongpo District, Chongqing. It is a concern guide rather than a procedure page: it answers why the fat sits there, whether anything needs doing about it, and which of several paths applies. The operations and the anatomy they work on are explained on the Body hub and on Dr. Mao’s own site, and repeating them here would help nobody.

The distinction the site is built on

One word covers three different things. Fat at the flank is fat, and it is set largely by genetics and hormones. The frame of ribs and pelvis is not fat and is not changed by anything on the ladder. Skin that has lost its elasticity is not fat either, and it sets the ceiling on how sharp a result can be. Naming which of the three you are looking at is most of the decision.

What it deliberately does not do

It does not name products or brands, quote prices or dosages, or promise a result. It does not present a device, a course of injections or a garment as a way of tightening skin, because none of them restores elasticity that has been lost. It does not give diet advice, calorie targets or training plans, because those are individual prescriptions rather than website content. And it does not describe technique, which belongs to the pages that cover the procedures.

The limits of a website

Nothing here can tell you whether your own flank is fat, frame or skin, or how much of each. Those answers come from someone pinching the fat, measuring the gap between the ribs and the pelvis, and testing how the skin recoils, which takes minutes in person. Use this site to arrive at an assessment with better questions, and treat any answer you receive here as general information rather than as advice about you.
