If the change is rapid, one-sided, or comes with a lump
Do not wait for a routine cosmetic appointment. A firm lump at the flank, fat change over weeks rather than years, a change on one side only, bruising without an injury, or weight loss you did not intend needs medical assessment. Say what you have noticed when you call, so that the right clinic sees you rather than a contouring list.
Arranging an ordinary assessment
Where the flank has been stable, appointments are made through the hospital outpatient line or through the appointment service described on the appointments page. Say when booking that the question is about the waist. If you are travelling from outside Chongqing, say so, because the assessment and any tests can sometimes be arranged across fewer visits.
What to bring
Bring a record of your weight over the last two years if you have one, any previous body procedures, a list of your current medicines and allergies, and the names of any conditions you are being treated for. Mention any hormonal condition, and any weight-loss treatment you have had, because both change what a plan should take into account.
What happens at the consultation
Expect a measurement exercise rather than a presentation. The fat is pinched standing, the gap between the lower ribs and the pelvis is measured, the skin is lifted and released to see how it recoils, and your weight history is reviewed. You should leave knowing whether the flank is fat at all, what a treatment would and would not change, and whether waiting is the better answer.
