Meet the Flank Contouring Team

This site is led and medically reviewed by Tongchun Mao, MD, who performs body contouring here and who is responsible for the medical content. The other three physicians contribute what an assessment of the waist often needs: the center’s surgical standards and its experience of revision, the assessment of skin quality and elasticity at the flank, and the dermatologic assessment of a lump or a skin change that is not fat.

Tongchun Mao

Tongchun Mao (毛彤春)

Deputy Director & Head of Aesthetic Surgery · Vice Chief Physician, Licensed Aesthetic Attending · Lead Physician of This Site

Waist and flank assessment · fat, frame and skin told apart · body contouring

Dr. Tongchun Mao is an aesthetic surgeon at Chongqing West District Hospital, where he is Deputy Director and Head of Aesthetic Surgery in its Plastic Surgery & Aesthetics Medical Center and the responsible physician for this site. He personally performs more than 700 operations a year, within hospital standards of assessment, anaesthesia and follow-up.

On this site his part is the examination that decides whether the flank is fat at all. He pinches the fat standing rather than lying down, measures the gap between the lower ribs and the pelvis, and tests how the skin recoils, because a waist made mostly of frame or of skin that has lost its elasticity will not change much whatever is done to the fat. He asks for weight to be stable before treating, and where the honest answer is that the shape is skeletal rather than fatty he says so rather than offering a course.

Clinical focus

  • Flank assessment: fat thickness, frame and skin elasticity
  • Telling contouring apart from weight loss in the plan itself
  • Fat removal at the waist, and what it does not tighten
  • Skin removal at the flank, alone or within a larger body plan
  • Assessment of a result that has changed with weight regain

The frame sets the ceiling

Fat at the waist can be reduced. The distance between the lower ribs and the pelvis cannot, and where that gap is short there is little waist for any treatment to create. It is the single finding that most changes what is reasonable to expect, and it is why the measurement is taken before a plan rather than after a result.

Shaoliang Wang

Shaoliang Wang (王韶亮)

Director, Plastic Surgery & Aesthetics Medical Center · Vice Chief Physician, Associate Professor, Doctor of Medicine

Center leadership · surgical standards and complex revision

Dr. Shaoliang Wang is Director of the Plastic Surgery & Aesthetics Medical Center at Chongqing West District Hospital. Within the team he provides the surgical perspective and the tertiary-hospital backstop — the assessment when an operation is the honest answer, and the hospital-level care for the rare complication that needs it.

Within this site his part is the standard any operation has to meet and the backstop behind it, including the assessment of a waist that has been operated on before and has not settled as expected.

Clinical focus

  • Center leadership and multidisciplinary case review
  • Surgical assessment when an operation is the honest answer to descent or excess skin
  • Hospital-based care for the rare complication that needs theatre-level management
Ke He

Ke He (何锞)

Deputy Director & Head of Skin & Laser Aesthetics · Attending Physician, Licensed Aesthetic Attending

Skin and laser aesthetics · skin quality at the waist

Dr. Ke He is Deputy Director and head of skin and laser aesthetics within the Plastic Surgery & Aesthetics Medical Center at Chongqing West District Hospital. Within the team her role is the device and injectable assessment, and the honest referral when a problem needs an operation rather than a needle.

Within this site her part is the layer that sets the ceiling: the quality and elasticity of the skin over the flank, the stretch marks that show where it was stretched, and the honest conversation about what a device can and cannot change.

Clinical focus

  • Device and injectable assessment before any treatment plan
  • Staged planning judged against standardised photographs
  • Honest referral when a problem needs an operation rather than a needle
Yongbo Jia

Yongbo Jia (贾勇波)

Deputy Director & Head of Dermatology · Vice Chief Physician, Licensed Aesthetic Attending

Dermatology · skin conditions in the flank fold

Dr. Yongbo Jia is a dermatologist within the Plastic Surgery & Aesthetics Medical Center at Chongqing West District Hospital. Within the team his role is medical skin assessment — diagnosing and managing pigment and barrier conditions, and treating skin that a device or an injection has irritated.

Within this site his part is the skin condition rather than the contour: rashes, irritation and infections in the fold at the waist, and the dermatologic assessment of a lump or a change in the skin that is not fat.

Clinical focus

  • Medical skin assessment behind injectable treatment plans
  • Diagnosis and management of pigment and barrier conditions
  • Dermatologic care of skin after irritation or a delayed reaction

Start with an assessment, not a procedure

Arrange a consultation. We will establish whether the flank is fat, frame or skin, and say what any treatment would and would not change for you.
